When Things Don’t Go as Planned

You’re off on an adventure. It’s everything you have thought about for the past months. It’s going to be perfect.

But something goes wrong. Maybe you missed a flight? Maybe your umbrella breaks in the middle of a rainstorm? Maybe you fly all the way to Morocco only to spend the entire time sick in bed?

You start getting those dangerous thoughts, like “Oh god, I’ve ruined everything,” or “I’ve wasted so much money!” And yeah, maybe you’ve screwed up. But regardless of whether you could have controlled this mishap, it has happened, and you need to control it now.

Learn from what happened. Learn how to book a flight on the spot or how to best spend your time in a WiFi-less apartment feeling awful when all you want to do is go out and explore. Then move on. Buy a new umbrella, catch a different flight to somewhere else, take care of yourself now so that you can enjoy another adventure.

It sucks to mess something up. I know. I’ve had plenty of things go wrong over the past month, some of them costly, some of them just simply frustrating. But those things are to be expected, especially when you’re on you own. But don’t let them ruin your time because I promise that the good memories will outweigh the bad ones.

Find joy in the little things and learn from the bad experiences. They will only help you in the future.
