Where She Slept – Gelsenkirchen, Germany

The week of reunions continued yesterday in Gelsenkirchen, where I spent another night on the floor of a small apartment. This one belongs to Saskia, who lived with my family in New Hampshire for my senior year of high school. It was a delightful night of cooking dinner, catching up on the events of the last year and a half, and me trying to get her to like Stranger Things (I’m not sure I succeeded).

Seeing old friends, or in this case family, has been so fun this last week. Of course there are the special treats like eating something besides the two-day old baguette you’re trying to stretch out, or doing your laundry, but it is also just lovely talking to people who know you.

I’m beyond excited for the next leg of my journey, for independence again, for not planning more than 24 hours in advance. But for the time being, I’m content to enjoy clean laundry and homemade meals.
