Arriving in our bedroom at Bed & Bike felt surreal. Anna and I had been planning our trip to Curacao for close to a year, and after so many bumps and twists and turns, we had finally pulled off two weeks in the Dutch Caribbean.

The hostel was brand new – not even a year old, just like many of the businesses in the Pietermaai district of Willemstad. New hotels and cafes and bars are opening up in the area, and it is vibrant and beautiful. The building itself is a renovated parliamentary building with a bright orange and blue facade. It has two floors with two kitchens and a lovely terrace. Bed & Bike is connected to a cafe, Mijn Broodje, which has really reasonably priced breakfast, sandwiches, and drinks and is open all day long. It’s cozy, colorful, and everyone who works there is so kind and helpful.

Bed & Bike is a hotel/hostel combo, and for the first part of our stay, we were in the hotel section of the building. Our room was small, but it included a queen bed, two dressers, a TV, A/C, and a bathroom. The bathroom is spacious and the shower has one of those rain showerheads that I love so much. One of my favorite parts of the room were the shutters that opened out onto the street. They provided a lot of light and kept the room cool for the most part, so we only needed the A/C while we slept.

The outlets were European, but the hostel provided adapters, which was super helpful. We didn’t turn the TV on, but I ended up using it as a place to hang drying clothes. Housekeeping came in at some point in the afternoon and made our bed. We felt comfortable and secure during our entire stay.

Bed & Bike offers several services to their guests, including free bike rentals with locks and helmets. Guests put down a $100 deposit and are given a bike for the duration of their stay, which makes traveling to beaches that are a little further much easier. The bikes are in great shape and I thought it was so fun having access to them.

Thank you to Bed & Bike Curacao for sponsoring part of our stay in Curacao. For more information on this hostel, please visit https://www.bedandbikecuracao.com/ . For information on our stay in the hostel portion of Bed & Bike, please click here.
